3 Ways to Sunday Film Festival Launch Party

Our Film Festival Launch party for "3 Ways to Sunday" was a huge success with a sold out show for friends and family to see our 3-year production on the big screen for the first time. We had good response to the dark comedy, which surprised me on some of the scenes that I didn't think I'd get the kind of response that

Behind the Scenes - 3 ways to Sunday

Here are some pics of the torture scene that we did early in 2007. We shot both scenes with the punching first, and added proper make-up then did the whip scene afterwards. Marci Pascua was in charge of make-up and she did an awesome job. Red and blue food coloring, corn syrup, and a little flour did the job. Gehrig did get hurt once during this scene, but was a good sport. Some of the blood still remains on the floor 'til this day. A year later the CU shot of the finger being pressed into the leg was shot using Armand's finger, and Joy's leg. It was later discovered that it would make more sense with the CU.

Armand Montiel - An indie director's point of view into filmmaking

A little info on the film director - Armand Montiel

Armando F. Montiel was born in Tijuana, and raised in San Diego. 1999 marked his first original screenplay entitled "MINT IN BOX" (running time: 1hr,52min.) which he produced and directed as well. Production began in the fall of 2004 and released independentlly in 2006 earning "BEST DARK COMEDY" In the LANYIFF in Los Angeles."3 WAYS TO SUNDAY" also known as "GONK" (running time: 1hr,22min.) marks his second full length-feature as writer/ director/ producer, and pre-production began soon after the release of his first feature MIB. Currently working on his first draft for his next full length feature entitled "Where's Leon?" scheduled to shoot in 2010 is in the very preproduction with the screen play. Currently he has been offered to direct his first music video for "KASE" that is in preproduction stage at the moment. Directing is his true passion, and is always looking for representation.

"I've learned in this business that if you never ask the answer will always be 'no'. It's tough, really  challenging directing a movie specially on such a low budget where you aren't paying anyone, but cutting deals here and there instead. There's a lot going on in this kind of indie filmmaking. Being producer you take on all this responsability. Having to compromise is the worst thing ever, but I was determined to finish what I began. I owe a lot to the dedicated actors who gave up so much to make this project what it is today. There were a lot of changes made to the script. It was just a matter of time to find out how the movie would end up. I've learned a lot making these two movies. I've learned a lot from the actors. Some saw my vision, and it was fun working with them as there wasn't much directing involved, but more creative ideas being tossed around. That's what I like the best. I've learned a lot about my character as a husband, and being a good friend to those I love. It brings out the best and worst of you as a human being. But I became a lot wizer as a director on this film because of my struggles, and issues I had during the making of this movie. I became stronger, because I've learnred from my mistakes hoping in the future I don't make them again. After all that's said and done there was more done than said. I was determined to finish this movie, and I did with the help of the coolest people I've ever worked with that were as determined as much as me to get things done."  -Armando F. Montiel

Dez (Jonathan Wilcox; MINT IN BOX, FINISH LINE: A CRUISE DOWN MEMORY LANE) is a vinyl-collecting,Vespa-riding mod who runs a local record  shop.  With bills climbing high, and not being able to pay the rent,  Stan, (Sean Sedgwick; HIDDEN SECRETS, 25 TO LIFE) his Potato-chip-collecting best  friend offers him the perfect solution. He stumbles across a deal of a lifetime that will make both of them rich over night; he wants to buy a stack of vintage movie posters from someone who doesn’t know the value of them, with the intention of reselling the posters, and making a fortune.  They reluctantly borrow money from Stan’s brother-in-law, Jep, (Gehrig Mantle Miller; MINT IN BOX, SHINDY.TV) who already owes money to two malicious loan sharks  (Aaron Mendez;MINT IN BOX, PALETAS, and Kevin Vigil; LOKO ARTS).  This “too good to pass up” money making opportunity spells trouble for everyone involved when it gets swiped from under them.  These two friends discover who they really are and what they are capable  of doing when things go awry.

This is a San Diego based production paid for with our own money, and kind contributuions from some of the cast members who helped out with some of the production costs that were needed for the production. Food was the most expensive cost during the making of the movie, and with the tight budget that we had we had to stretch every dollar in order to stay within the budget. The script began in January of 2006 withpre-production following in the fall. Shooting began in Januaryof '07 off  and on 'til April of the same year. Director of Photography/ Producer/ Editor is Marci Pascua. Her vision and putting this movie together did great justice. She was a great asset to this production, and we all survived because of her. A lot of dedication went into the making of this picture.
